Macau Tower

Tuesday, January 24th, 2006

The Lotus flower is the symbol of the modern Metropolis of Macau that retrieves her energy from the deep legacy inherited from the past five centuries.

Now between her two new lakes, another Lotus, shining in metal, has risen from the dust and mud, reaching the blue and clear skies. Macau Tower was born.

In respecting the balance between tradition and technology, Macau is a fortunate city because it possesses both strong tradition and high technology.

The Tower will enhance the riverside use of the city, and will launch a taste and challenge toward modernity in the beginning of the new millennium. These technological assets can be compared with the old Light House and the foreign ancient ships that anchored in Macau throughout the centuries.

Tuesday, January 24th, 2006

The Cultural Center Complex is mainly composed of two buildings, which were intended separated in order to reflect the two main cultures of Macau, the Chinese and the Portuguese, which had lived peacefully together for centuries.

The volumetric majesty of the amphitheatres building, cover by an oriental roof shape had in its interior cultural live performances represent the present time; China.

The other building, the Museum of arts, reflected the past and the Portuguese historic contribution. Cobblestones paved the foot of its facade.

Also it is significant that a bridge link the Museum with the river, which could represent the departure of the Portuguese and their eternal romantic attraction for the ocean.

Nevertheless the separation they are link in the basement, which share the same, ground as well the public squares and gardens. Its was not by chance that this was the place chosen for the handover ceremony of transference of suzerainty in 1999.”

Visual interactions are constant. The landscape design was the tool use to bring this to separate volumes to unity. The public square-park was design as a facility, which could host open-air cultural events.

The buildings orientation, the entrance porticos and the external stairs contributed for the creation of visual corridors given the concept of “no walls” freedom and space.
